Microneedling is generally avoided during active acne breakouts, skin infections, open wounds, or active cold sores in the treatment area. It is not recommended for people with a history of keloid (raised) scarring, certain skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis in the area, uncontrolled diabetes, bleeding disorders, or during pregnancy. Recent use of certain medications (such as oral isotretinoin) may also require a waiting period.

Treatment should only be performed with sterile, single-use needle cartridges by a trained, licensed provider. Disclose all medications, supplements, and skin conditions during your consultation. Following pre- and post-care instructions including sun protection and avoiding harsh products significantly reduces the risk of complications.

Most people experience redness similar to a mild sunburn for one to three days. Makeup and strenuous activity are typically avoided for the first 24 hours.
